Ready Set WriMo

Today (Halloween) is actually the eve of National Novel Writing Month (more affectionately known as NaNoWriMo). What is national NaNoWriMo you ask? Good question. NaNoWriMo is 100,000+ people around the world, each committing to write a 50,000 word novel in November. It’s like a support group for folks that don’t want to carry out their dream of writing a novel – with a crazy deadline.

Some facts about the event:

• There are over 500 NaNoWriMo Chapters around the world.
• 366 K-12 schools participated in 2007.
• Over a billion words were written by WriMos in 2007…
• Sara Gruen author of the famous Water for Elephants, wrote two novels during NaNoWriMo including Water for Elephants in 2006 and Flying Changes in 2004.

A quick calculation tells me that 50,000 words in 30 days is 1,666.67 words a day. For me that is the frightening thought… Happy Halloween!
